"World Citizen As Nonsense," Ctd

Poulos's remarks ignore the historically expanding notion of community, from clan to village to city to nation. And the nation is by no means natural; it's a metaphorical extension of kinship ties to an imagined community. Americans, to take one example, already feel these ties to millions of people that they have never met, never will meet, and ... (Read on Source)

Reimagining The Desktop

North Davis Road: "The basic desktop which we are used to on our computers hasn’t changed significantly since the days of Xerox Parc. In how it operates and how we interact with it, other than the mouse and other pointing devices, it hasn’t really changed much. A few fiddles at the edges, colour and much broader use yes. Change. Valley Networks On Mars Formed During Long Period Of Episodic Flooding

Ancient features on the surface of Mars called valley networks may well have been carved by recurrent floods during a long period when the martian climate may have been much like that of some arid or semiarid regions on Earth. An alternative theory that the valleys were carved by catastrophic flooding over a relatively short time is not supported by the new results.

Dedicated Hosting Provider, LeaseWeb, Upgrades Network, Support

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - (The Hosting News) - September 15, 2008 - International business hosting services firm, LeaseWeb, has expanded its Network and Support divisions, to cover operational services, including monitoring the hosting network, providing customer hosting services and support, and sales support.

The expansion of the Network and Support Department, which has appointed four new network engineers, follows recent strong growth in LeaseWeb's international customer base.

Con Zwinkels, Managing Director at LeaseWeb noted, ''Our network's large bandwidth and the capacity available in our data centers attracts customers from as far afield as Spain, Poland, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The effect on our worldwide network has led to rapid growth. We need to have more people on standby to provide our 24x7 network management support services in all those time zones.''

Dennis Kuik (38) applied for LeaseWeb's network engineer vacancy and was taken on immediately. He was also appointed assistant team leader because of his broad experience. His last job was also in an international setting. Before LeaseWeb, he was senior network controller at the international banking organization SWIFT, which provides financial messaging services for banks, financial institutions and corporate organizations in more than 200 countries. He had previously also worked for Infonet.

Jottie Tolatzis (28) has worked as a hardware support engineer at LeaseWeb for the past 2.5 years. He is now ready to take on the role of network engineer. Tolatzis is a highly motivated employee, with the company's interests at heart and an extensive knowledge of hardware. He worked as a second-line support technician at Interpay for 5.5 years before joining LeaseWeb.

Tim Vollebregt (20) is LeaseWeb's whizz-kid. A fast learner, he is constantly expanding and deepening his knowledge. After just a short period at LeaseWeb as a hardware engineer, Vollebregt is now ready to take on the more complicated work of a network engineer. He previously worked as a system and network manager at Worldstream, a smaller hosting provider in Maasdijk, the Netherlands.

James Higgins (40) was the fourth new network engineer to be appointed after applying for the LeaseWeb vacancy. Originating from Ireland, Higgins is a meticulous worker who knows how to get the job done. He has worked for some years in ICT and will be bringing his technical experience to LeaseWeb. He was a logistics manager in his previous job, at PC4Everyone, a company that installs new hardware and software in the computers it buys up from businesses before selling them in the market again at competitive prices.

LeaseWeb is an international supplier of hosting products and services that specializes in both Microsoft and Linux, and focuses primarily on the professional market. The company is among the top 20 hosting providers in the world and provides services such as web hosting, dedicated hosting, colocated hosting, VPS and streaming, as well as technical support. LeaseWeb owns a Cisco-powered network offering a bandwidth of over 210 Gbps, which extends across five data centers in the Amsterdam region via the major telecom carriers.
